Dependent Administration

Court-supervised estates.
Practical follow-through.

Focused administration when the probate court continues to supervise the estate and particular actions require approval.

SCOTT H. STILES · ESTATE ADMINISTRATOR

A continuing responsibility to the estate and the court.

A dependent administration involves continuing probate court supervision. The administrator works within applicable statutory procedures and the orders entered in the estate. Property decisions, claims, expenses, reporting, and distributions need to be handled with those requirements in view.

The work can extend beyond filings. A house may need attention, records may need to be gathered, claims may need to be evaluated, and proposed actions may need to be presented to the court. I organize those connected responsibilities into a practical course for the administration.

The work involved

01

Appointment and qualification

Address the authority to serve, required qualification, letters, and any bond ordered by the court.

02

Estate inventory and records

Identify the estate’s assets and organize the documents needed for inventory and ongoing reporting obligations.

03

Applications and approvals

Identify when a proposed action needs to be presented to the court and follow the applicable procedure.

04

Real estate administration

Work through property preservation, title, occupancy issues, proposed sales, and any required reports and confirmation.

05

Accounting and completion

Maintain the records needed for accountings, authorized distributions, and the orders required to conclude the administration.
